Above is a screenshot of an email I received from Amazon Kindle on the 1st of December 2012 when my second book was successfully published on Kindle Store.
There is hardly a better way to gain authority and credibility in your field, career or passion, than to become a published author.
And when the book is published on Amazon, underneath it, your name, there is a ripple of personal pride you inaudibly celebrate.
Then add that to the money you make and the caliber of audience you reach, it’s simply a nice way to boost your writing career.
Sounds like what you want?
Introducing – Complete Guide to Format, Publish and Sell your Book on Kindle

For the benefit of other readers who do not understand what Kindle is, let me briefly explain.
What is Amazon Kindle?
Amazon Kindle Store is an online store for sale of digital books in Kindle format.
Kindle is a device by Amazon, that lets readers download and read digital books in Kindle and .mobi formats.
Just like PDF document format is for Adobe, .docx format is for Microsoft; Kindle works with different document format .prc, .mobi.
Currently, the Kindle device is not distributed in most African countries including Nigeria. Here is an article I wrote about the limitations of publishing on Kindle as a Nigerian and African. However, with kindle applications, you can download ‘Kindle for PC’, ‘Kindle for Android’, ‘Kindle for Windows phone’ and read kindle books on any device.
So you don’t need to own a Kindle device to read kindle eBooks.
Why should you Self-Publish on Kindle?
Amazon is the largest book-seller on the planet. The online retail company claims that Kindle eBook sales have overtaken print sales. “For every 100 hardcover and paperback books sold, 114 eBooks are downloaded by customers on Amazon”, they said.
If this is true, what this means is that readers are now buying more eBooks than all hardcover and paperbacks combined.
Some statistics:
- Amazon’s annual revenue from book sales is at $5.25 billion
- eBooks make up around 30% of all book sales in US
- Amazon has a 65% share in book sales
- An astonishing 86% of Amazon top 2500 Titles are ebooks
- John Locke sold one million self published ebooks in 5 months on Kindle
- Stieg Larsson (the first to reach 1 million book sales), James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Charlaine Harris, Lee Child, Suzanne Collins, Michael Connelly have all sold over one million copies of eBooks on Amazon Kindle.
Of course these successes did not happen overnight; however they are proof of the potential of publishing your book on Amazon Kindle Store.
You may not end up in the list of Kindle Millionaire club anytime soon; may be not in the Africa bestsellers list either.
The important thing is that you can finally get that book idea in your brain folder or the written content in your document folder in the front of book buyers.
You can finally turn your passion for writing into a source of income by creating content to make an impact in the lives of other people.
Amazon provides the tools you need to publish you book online regardless of your location or nationality.
What tools do you need to perform this task?
To successfully get your book on Kindle store, you need to have a professional looking document formatted for Kindle. Here are tools you’ll need;
- Microsoft Word: to write and format your eBook
- An ecover for your book
- A robust tool to format your book to (.prc) Kindle readable format
- Kindle Application: for previewing your converted kindle eBook. More like a simulator to see how your book will look on Kindle device.
And you are good to go.

Hi Blogerian
Lack of knowledge about publishing ebook online is the main hurdle in Asia and Africa where thousands of mediocre and top writers have just save the whole manuscript of their books waiting for any heavenly help to get them published.
A little research can enable them to publish their own ebook at full liberty and earn easy money online but the problem is taking initiative. You know in our part of the world writers are usually moody and very egocentric. They always hope someone would insist them to publish their ebook. For their maiden publication hardly someone do this mistake howsoever reputable or of having authority they are.
You well explained the whole process in very simple term and I think this equally applies in Asian countries as well. There is big need to create awareness on online publication in backward parts of the world.
Thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful resource that really worth of bookmarking.

Hi Muba,
I’m pleased to have you on my blog. We crossed part at BoostBlogTraffic.com. Your comment over there resonated with me, and I totally agree with you on the issue of getting so scholarly…
On the lack of knowledge and information about online/ebook publishing, indeed there is a vacuum to be filled and a catch-up to be met in our part of the world.
It appears to be gaining momentum in some Asian countries like India.
The good news is that we are taking steps and making progress.
What better way to get things going than to keep informing people to get on this rewarding, economy friendly industry.
I appreciate your contribution.
Regards

This is more than whispering about Kindle publishing to Nigerians (and other Africans).
The above statement is one of the thoughts I had immediately after reading the Blogerian’s “How to Publish Your Book on Kindle”.
The ebook, in my opinion, represents a real knowledge transfer regarding an issue that appears unclear to so many aspiring African authors. With the solid promise in the ebook to provide needed guidance for the concerned authors and those thinking that Amazon Kindle publishing is for “them”; not for “us”, I can see the emergence of a movement on authorpreneurship being initiated right from this blog. I can see a community of Kindle authors being built right from Nigeria across Africa based on the unique move being made now by brain behind this blog.
To you the wishing and waiting authors who want to self-publish, let me drop the following quick advice with you.
Don’t care to start roughly!
That advice is placed here because, as I think, there is no better opportunity for you than having a supporting community like this with a specific focus on Nigeria/Africa. I believe that this emerging community for Kindle authors will benefit you by helping you polish any roughness you may encounter in your way to becoming a self-published Kindle author. Surely, leveraging on such community will provide you with the energy and speed you need to drive your writing career forward.
As I earlier mentioned on this blog, it will be nice to have thousands of Nigerians (and other Africans) as Kindle authors through this blog. I really mean this because I still remember the sense of rewarded efforts and the excitement I had when I received my first Amazon cheque as a Nigerian Kindle author. This experience is apart from the motivation I got for having the momentum I need to progress as a Kindle author. Getting to this point took a long and bumpy journey. I believe that having regionally specific supports, as being started on this blog, in your own journey will enable the smoothness your self-publishing journey deserves.
To Ikenna, you recently promised your”coming tutorial will cover the A-to-Z of Kindle publishing for Nigerians. Then, we’ll take it from there.” I thank you that you have taken things forward by fulfilling that promise with your ebook: “How to Publish Your Book on Kindle”.
I am happy by your initiative to take Nigerians/Africans along to the front of Amazon income opportunity through Kindle publishing.
I look forward to the success of your initiative that is targeted at easing (as put in the above reply to Muba) the “lack of knowledge and information about online/ebook publishing” and seeing that the “vacuum to be filled… as well as the …catch-up to be met in our part of the world” on the subject under discussion are addressed.
With my best wishes.

Hi Ikenna,
It’s pretty unusual for me to reach out to a blogger after reading something he wrote online (could be a blog post, ebook, etc.) But here I am reaching out to you.
Why?
I guess it’s because I’m a little wow’d by what you do. Actually I just subscribed to receive your ebook on getting published on Kindle and I was actually impressed (and surprised) that there wasn’t anything shady about it, which is pretty common with many internet entrepreneurs.
So here’s my way of saying, “Keep up the good work!”
I’m a freelance writer and digital marketer by the way, so I guess we have something in common. But I haven’t written a book yet, so you’re still my boss on that one.
Thumbs up again!
Best regards,
Lanre

I’ve had this idea for a very long time now. A very good friend of mine as a beginner used to make a few box from it back then. So I learnt quite a few tips from him. But then school and some certain things won’t let me sit for it.
But now though still in school and busy as usual, am ready to dedicate a little of my time to it. At least its better than not starting at all.
It indeed is a sure way of making a very large sum online but only requires to be learned and time. Thank you
Uche Francis
