Computer science and programming technology are the next generation skills every young and dynamic individual would want to develop. From the predictions of the Institute for the Future, computer programming related skills take a higher priority in the top 10 future work skills. And there is currently enough evidence that every professional need one computer skill or the other.
To encourage and ease learning of computer science, Khan Academy on Tuesday announced its brand new Computer Science platform! The free online learning Academy is releasing a completely new platform that targets people with no programming knowledge and gives them an engaging and fun environment to learn in. The platform is designed to emphasize creativity and exploration and make it approachable for people of all ages, including young kids.
In a blog post by John Resig, the project leader, he wrote:
“Rather than starting Computer Science education off by explicitly teaching how a computer works or fundamental programming concepts (like variables, logic, control structures, etc.) you put the student into code of graduated complexity and encourage them to manipulate, explore, and write their own programs.
“Once they start to explore and figure out things for themselves then they can begin to dig into all the explanatory tutorials and documentation that are provided to clarify how things work..
“The desire to learn and understand can be a powerful accelerant for students and it’s something that is completely missing from almost all Computer Science education. The Khan Academy Computer Science program is a distillation of this process into it’s purest form: Directly encouraging experimentation, exploration, and creativity as a direct gateway to deeper learning”.
