If you have been following my blogging activity here, you would have noticed I changed domain name of this blog on the 24rd of June 2011. Since then, I have only published 9 posts. In addition to the previous 26 posts with the old domain, I have 35 written contents here on Blogerian.com (excluding the pages). I don’t think the success of a blog is determined by its page rank. High page rank doesn’t guarantee increase in traffic; however it’s an indicator to measure on going website activities.
When I heard the news of Google updating page ranking for websites on the 4th of August, I didn’t bother checking the rank for this blog as I felt it’ll certainly be on zero rank, since it’s still new. Checking on prchecker.info yesterday, I was surprised to see a rank of one (1). I can’t give a clear reason why Google would decide to assign rank to a blog this new, and also considering the changes it has been going through. I didn’t redirect the old domain to the new one, so it’s not a case of 301-redirect alerting the search engines that this blog have been up to three months old. Here are a few things that could have made this possible.
Commenting
I wouldn’t say I do a lot of commenting as I used to while on the old domain. In fact my commenting activity has slowed down since I got this new domain. I’ve been spending more time on my older blog which pays the bills, and commenting is not part of my promotion strategy for the blog. But I still make out time to comment on other blogs in my niche for blogerian.com.
Comments from other bloggers
I’ve read from several sources that blog posts with a good number of comments have a higher tendency to rank well on search engines than a blog that hardly get comments. I’ve also noticed this on my other blog, which proves the statement right (for my money). Have you noticed similar results? This might also have contributed in my ranking.
Write unique contents
I think this factor played the most part in getting my blog a page rank in less than 45days. The importance of quality, unique contents on your blog cannot be overemphasized. Even if you run a news/announcement based blog, you should rewrite your content for your blog.
So far these are the major of my activity towards promoting this blog. I don’t really invest much time to promote it. I just write and network with other bloggers. My main niche blog takes most of my time, partly because I think of it like; if I get results from there, I’ll have something to share with you here. However, I intend to introduce some more promotion strategies and do better at the ones I used to. Hope to see some better results.
What blogging activities help your blog rank better?

The factor played role is unique content and same for my blog. my domain is new too as i have bought my domain in may 2011 and I got PR 4 … there is only reason behind this is uniqueness of contents.

Google easily spot out unique blogs these days. I’ll have to put more time here.

Congratulations, Iyke! It’s so good to say that favor smiled at your little effort. But, does Google really understand “favor” when ranking a site?
Instead, I think a good strategy on promotion as well as writing unique content can surely make one’s site rise higher in the search engines. All the same, I admit that a little favor can help to crown one’s efforts with success!
Ikenna Odinaka says
Favor! Could be a factor? May be if the blog meets some requirements, it’ll be favored by Google. Nice perspective Adeniyi.
Atish says
hey Iyke. your thumbnail problem solved now?? how did you solve that?
Ikenna Odinaka says
Yes Atish. I removed a line of code from function.php, then manually uploaded the thumbnail. I’ll be doing it manually this time around. then manually uploaded the thumbnail. I’ll be doing it manually this time around.

Thanks Sofia,
I didn’t expect it either. It’s a sign that Google appreciates our work as bloggers.

Congrats Iyke … Hardwork really pays out, though your activity decreased after moving to this domain but the quality content helped

Thanks Salman. My activity did decrease due to some other activities I got on. I’ll be giving some more time here once I get through.
