Do you want to know How to Make Money Online with Google Adsense from your blog?
Two blogs! Both Adsense optimized. One is 2 times older with ten times more traffic. Both generate almost the same Google Adsense revenue monthly.
Still figuring how to use Google Adsense to make money online?
One of my blogging friends (whom I respect) receives almost 10 times more traffic than I do, yet I make as much money (even more than he does) from Adsense. His blog is two times older than mine and far bigger in terms of page views and visitors, yet my blog earn more from google Adsense revenue. So what could be wrong or right? I assure you, it’s explain-able.
What makes the difference?
Though tech related, my friend’s blog is a great blog about any topic that would interest most internet users. You’ll likely find something of interest on his blog. He freely publishes whatever he thinks is interesting to share, which is an advantage.
On the other hand, my blog which is quite younger will not appeal to everyone. In fact when I get such Facebook messages like, ‘Like my page. I will Like yours in return‘, I often reply with, I’m not sure my fan page will appeal to you. My blog is more defined. It’s either what you are looking for or not.
The disadvantage of building such blogs like mine is that, you may be tempted to diversify at the initial stage when you are not getting results. I felt like it. I was often advised to make the blog more general, as it was my only blog at the time and I felt like I have more to say than what I was stuck with. However, keeping the blog focused on my niche is the best decision I made.
You may have noticed I don’t (atthe time of writing this post) run Google Adsense or any form of advertising on this blog yet. As a fact I don’t yet have a form of monetization on this blog (except for the Hostgator affiliate banner on my sidebar- my blog’s hosting company). However, I run a blog that earn me over a thousand Euro monthly from Google Adsense revenue alone.
How to Start a Blog to Make Money Online from Google Adsense
I’ve seen a lot of new bloggers start a blog with titles like ‘everything you need to know about the internet‘ or ‘Make money, scholarships and general news‘. And they want to generate income from Google Adsense. You may end up making a couple of dollars, but how well can it sustain you? From what I have learned so far, here are powerful blogging tips to build a blog that makes money with Adsense.
1. Decide on a Niche
From my brief comparison above and probably what you already know, starting a blog about everything is not so smart if you intend to make money from Google Adsense. Specifying the purpose of your blog and being able to describe it in less than 6 descriptive words is more likely to perform better. My point here is not that general blogs don’t make money from Adsense or other online advertising but that it’s easier to monetize a niche blog than a general blog.
2. Research is Essential
It can be tempting to read about people making money online and want to quickly start a blog with the intention that you already know what to do. Even after you’ve made up your mind on the theme of your blog, you have to research for other blogs in your niche (see how they blog and possibilities of gaps you can fill), keywords people are searching for, latest news in the industry and other things you need to know. A blog without a clear plan will either make you realize your mistakes later and start all over again or keep you running in circles without tangible results. Take the time to study the niche you want to start a blog on, and identify where you want to fill in.
3. Stick to the Plan
It appears that most of the bloggers that make their blogs about everything actually started with the intention of blogging on a niche but couldn’t continue in their defined niche. You shouldn’t expect to start generating revenue from Ads in few months of blogging. If your blog should get to the point of making you sustainable money from Google Adsense, you need to stick to your niche.
4. Build a useful blog
Building a blog that make money with Adsense is like building every other business blog. Think engagement and retention. Large online businesses like Google and Facebook don’t sell info products. They generate revenue from advertising. However they invest time, money and effort to build useful websites that people love to spend their time on. Most Google and Facebook users don’t know how these companies generate their revenue and it’s obvious most don’t care to know. Take the money out of it and build a useful blog people will talk about and refer to their friends. Give your readers reasons to help you build you blog (your business). A better way to stick to this concept is to see your blog as a platform to freely solve people’s problem. Think of it as a business with the potential to grow.
5. Retain your visitors
This looks similar to the above point, however you have to consciously thing about it. There are several articles online on how to build your subscriber list and retain repeat visitors. You can search and read them up. However, It’s about making your blog present on different platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube (I’m yet have a presence here) and other social networks where people spend most of their time online. Also have email subscription options to collect email addresses and give a clear, selfless reason for your readers to subscribe.
6. Optimize your blog for Adsense at the right time
I recommend building your blog for a while before slapping ads all over. Here is why I think building before Adsense is a better option. Talking about optimizing your blog for Adsense revenue, I’ve made changes on Adsense placements on my blog that dropped my earning in two weeks testing. I’ve also made changes that increased my earnings significantly. The idea is to feel free to test different Adsense positions for your blog. This is one of the reasons I recommend using Adsense when you start getting a decent amount of daily traffic. You can’t make out a reasonable statistic with 15 visitors a day. Rather than spend time on irrelevant ads optimization, spend that early stage of your blog doing things with long-term benefit.
While testing your optimization, monitor changes in Bounce rate, click-through rates and other relevant stats. Also give it some time before you draw conclusions and make further changes. Once you’ve found the best fits for your blog, stop worrying about it and concentrate on building your blog.
7. Search engine optimization is your best friend
Your blog wouldn’t make you money if its only source of visits is from your Facebook friends. You need traffic to generate sustainable income from Adsense. You may not need a tone of traffic to start generating revenue from a blog that promotes your business or freelance skills. But as far as Adsense goes, traffic is the lifeblood of your blogs success. Hence you want to keep publishing quality contents, and optimizing your blog posts for search engines.
Each of the points I mentioned above are far more than the few words describing it. Read and practice to get better.

Hi Ikenna,
I’ve read some trite articles about adsense optimisation and placement and this and that over the years… having tried everything and still only managing a few cents a day, I gave up!
It’s pretty clear from reading your article that my focus was all wrong! In fact, it’s only fairly recently that I’ve started to niche my business down – something that has seen a dramatic increase in success for me!
I’m still in two minds about adsense – hence why I always like to check these articles out, but I can see a time in the future where my blog will have enough targeted traffic to make it worthwhile.
Thanks for being one of the few who tell it how it is… very refreshing.

Hi Dan,
It’ll become obvious that optimization and placement is not really the deal with adsense after trying so hard for some time. Most new bloggers often get it wrong and either conclude it doesn’t work or seek a better way..
I’m glad to hear your experience and how you have shifted your focus, to now see success in your niche business.
Thanks for your resourceful comment and kind words. It’s good to have you on my blog.. -;)

Unique articles, new content, catchy and controversial topics help me earn good in adsense.Though SEO is the best friend it could be worse FOE also.I mean we should make sure on pretext of SEO arent doing something that would penalise our blog.
I started earning a bit through adsense,God knows how i will shoot the income.Any suggestions from your side?
Ikenna says
Hi Shashank,
As long as you play it safe and go by the rules, SEO will almost always work to your advantage. It’ll also help to diversify your traffic source to social media networks, and have people share your content.
Though search engine is my main source of new visitors, I work on making a reasonable percentage of these visitors come back for more. That should also work for you..
Thanks for your comment.
